Hello and welcome to Muse & the Mustang

Working with all levels of riders we offer freelance coaching (BHS Stage 4 Coach in Complete Horsemanship) with a focus on biomechanics and rider effectiveness. Each session is designed to focus on your body to help you perform at your best.

We offer yoga and Pilates for equestrians to help you develop strength, fitness and flexibility – building your inner confidence and giving you that cheeky glow.

Based in Southwest London and on the Somerset/Devon border, we offer clinics on private yards, at riding club camps or at riding centres as well as regular clinics in some yards.

Please do get in touch if you’d like to find out more about working together.

Claire welcome

From happy hackers to professional competitive riders, we work with all levels of horses and riders to reach your goals. Muse & the Mustang Founder, Claire has a wide range of equestrian qualifications including Franklin Method Equestrian, Testt® and is a Centre10 Advanced Coach. She is passionate about education and following the latest sports science.

Based on the principles of biomechanics, body awareness and structured training, Claire uses a range of methods tailored to you. Every body is different and we start by understanding your body and how you move as the foundation for working with you to:

Be more body aware

Develop a balanced, independent seat

Understand how to align your body to enhance your horse’s performance

Build your proprioception to help improve that innate sense of feel

Build strength, fitness and flexibility, and confidence

A little bit more about some of the techniques we incorporate:

Franklin Method Equestrian

Franklin Method Equestrian

Franklin Method Equestrian combines anatomical embodiment and imagery to improve awareness, train the mind-body connection, and produce efficient movement.

The rider becomes more aware of their own movement, and the movement of the horse. Consequently, the connection between horse and rider becomes clearer and more precise.

Franklin Method uses a range of Franklin Method balls and bands on horse to achieve this.

Center10

Centre10

The Centre10 Advanced accreditation helps us to support riders with their mindset.

This might be helping you plan how to achieve your goals, overcome an issue, build your confidence or work through other challenges.

We can incorporate this into lessons or work with you off horse to improve your mental preparation, helping to improve confidence.

Testt

Testt®

The Testt® process is a unique system designed to identify rider asymmetry quickly and effectively.

There are three main types of pelvic asymmetry and correction that have a significant effect on both rider and horse performance. This forms the basis of the Testt® process.

It incorporates off-horse functional testing exercises to identify asymmetries and uses resistance bands and taping techniques on the mounted rider to help correct these.

Equestrian Pilates & yoga – mat based

For riders of all abilities and fitness levels, these sessions are designed with riders in mind to help you develop your awareness of how you move, asymmetries and imbalances that your horse will feel.

In these sessions we use specific movements, rider terminology and imagery to help you improve your riding. Your position in the saddle, and your dynamic alignment and stability influence every aspect of your riding and impacts your horse’s ability to move with you, whatever your discipline.

We believe that exercise should be enjoyable, and our yoga is based around the vinyasa style of yoga – with creative movement, breathwork and fun at the heart of our practice. We can also offer yin and restorative yoga, and Reformer Pilates and MOTR sessions on request.

Rider symmetry & mechanical horse

Claire runs monthly clinics at Wildwoods on the full-sized Racewood mechanical horse, Trojan. Using a mechanical horse allows for analysis of the rider whilst experiencing the horse’s movement. This allows us to review the rider using a consistent “horse” to ensure that the focus is on the rider.

Ridden sessions are available following an assessment session on Trojan.

The clinics are held at Wildwoods Riding Centre, Ebbisham Lane, Walton-on-the-Hill, Tadworth, Surrey, KT20 5BH.
